MOOREINFO Inc. can provide information and referrals about the Midwifery profession and services in the USA

Midwifery is the art and science of the CARING for the normal woman, the normal newborn and the family during the childbearing cycle. The CNM provides a full range of basic primary health care services to women of all ages. The CNM works in collaboration with other health professionals. They specialize in the care of the normal healthy women providing prenatal, labor, birthing, postpartum, family planning and gynecology services. Since Midwifery was first formally established in this country in the late 1920s, it has had a history of providing outstanding, cost effective services with excellent patient satisfaction and excellent medical outcomes.

In the United States the majority of Midwives are Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNM), 85% of whom deliver in hospital settings, 16% in free standing Birth Centers and about 4% in the home. They are licensed in all 50 states and accepted by insurance carriers for reimbursement purposes, just like other health care providers.

Midwives educational background varies from country to country. In the USA the CNM is a Registered Nurse with an additional 1-2 years of education past the bachelors degree. Midwifery education is offered in over 50 different university settings throughout the USA, most of which are in the same educational settings as the physicians. Midwifery education usually leads to a Masters Degree in Nursing or Public Health or other related health discipline. More than 50 % of CNMs hold a Masters degree and many also have a doctorate, such as Ph.D., Dr.PH, Ed.D, DNS or ND. The professional organization for CNMs is the American College of Nurse-Midwives.
